This is a repeat of part of a 2011 painting:

These 2 paintings are from a photo I found on Pinterest:
...........................

This is the photo:

This is a boring little composition. Adding figures didn't help:

This is from an old newpaper photo. I'm not sure I'm through with it.

This was a good year for pretty autumn leaves. This is from the photo below taken looking east on Bloomington St. in Goosetown.
I'm working on another one that's just the right hand side of this photo, but it isn't finished. I'm thinking about a second brick building on the left and further back to balance the burnt sienna of the one on the right.

My last two along with the my photos I worked from.

Two from last week:

The first is from a picture in the Press-Citizen. The second is someone's backyard in Gold Hil;, CO:
I took the picture because of the poppies, but decided not to include them. I just thought the composition was interesting.

Here's a before and after tale. The first picture I did a couple of years ago, but never liked it much. Then the same picture I trimmed and I like it better.

I've been interested in alleys in my neighborhood and have taken some photos. This is the first painting I've done from them:

And here's the photo:

These first two are my most recent. I took them to my arts support group and they said not to do anything more to either. I'm not sure I concur, but we'll see. The first has no paint in the bottom left corner, although the sidewalks are drawn in. It reminds me of Stan Fellows' style.

This one I have struggled with the bush. Also the stepping stones seem to be on a hill. See the photos below.

Jan's Friday class one day in May, 2014. was about painting flowers. Most of us chose iris:

This is the house next door to me on Reno Street. Working on sunlight and shade.

This is from classwork with Jim Pedersen. The lesson was on the "gesture" - the practice of detail in only one part of the picture. I later added the black lines to imply a glass table with the big candle in front off it.

This is from a sketch I made in Boulder of a house across Dellwood from the parking lot of North Boulder Park. Still working on light and shade.

Thursday I attended a workshop by Jo Myers-Walker and painted this. It's from a photo she took on the ped mall.I don't like it. I need to master figures beginning with smaller ones like I see in Herry Arifin's work.
Don't know if I'll keep this one. Isn't very interesting.Correction: SOLD. Actually my son chose it when I offered him one. His office has a brick wall.

Learning to draw

I'm taking a weekly class in drawing which I'm enjoying a lot. We've been drawing a pair of work boots. The first week I had a fairly good angle. Later I added watercolor. The second week my angle was more difficult. I couldn't get my left brain to let go so I could draw what I was seeing. I couldn't believe the boot in the back could be so short!

SOLD: My daughter was here to select a WC of mine and that the workboots above is the one she took. That surprised me. I thought she'd want a Boulder landscape.

Last week of classes

This first one I did this week. Then the next one I posted around the end of the year. Then there's the photo. I took it in Grinnell in June of 2013 near the college campus. 100_1721.jpg C:\Users\KDN\Pictures\Art\kdn photos\buildings\Grinnell homes 2013

May 7 - bay window

Did this one yesterday. This could be final, or I may take it to Friday's class. On Friday's I have Jan Gustafson's class "Bring what you're working on." I need to start another one to take also.

Jim Pedersen's class Monday

In Jim's class Monday we did exercises with these results:

In the first we did full page colors and with window viewer found these 4 smaller abstracts. The second (the moon) is from lifting out paint to make corrections.

I had a hard time with the foreground in this one. I tried again without much success. On the other hand this is the best I've ever done water. Otherwise I can't decide if I like this one or not. I decided there's nothing to balance the strong diagonal right. So the rocks I added to the foregrounnd are an attempt to do that.

Odd subject matter, but I needed practice with drawing. These pipes are in the stairwell at the senior center.

Community Gardens, Boulder

Here's my latest. It's from a photo I took a few years ago. The garden hose doesn't look quite natural the way it's lying and the faucet looks on rather than off. I may try another. I'm enjoying using the Micron pen over my drawing before I start to paint. Also, for me right now it seems to work better if I lay in my darkest values first. Here's the photo:
